This grape is native to Austria where it has developed international acclaim for producing wines with an extraordinary versatility in style. Grüner Veltliner also has the reputation for being the world's most food-friendly wine. Our 2010 vintage has amazing purity and vibrancy with delicate pear, quince and custard apple aromas. The palate is full and unctuous, yet manages to finish with a fine zest plus a light dusting of white pepper in the tail. It is the perfect match for vegetarian dishes, spicy Asian cuisine and seafood.

Pinot Grigio 2009

Winner - Australia's Best Pinot Gris / Pinot Grigio - The Penguin Good Australian Wine Awards 2010

Silver Medal - National Cool Climate Wine Show 2010

Ultra crisp, ultra refreshing and supremely sexy, this is the quintessential summer wine! It was specifically made in the classic Italian style to accompany the sizzling days and long, hot nights of summer. It features delicate apple and pear flavours and mouth-watering, natural acidity. White Mischief 2008

Hahndorf Hill Winery - White Mischief 2008

Silver Medal - Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2008

This remarkable wine takes its lead from the so-called 'Super White Wines' from the wine region Friuli, in north-eastern Italy. These Super Whites are invariably blends that include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and other native Italian varieties. White Mischief is a blend of our high-grade, free-run juice from our Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Fresh on the nose and full and seamless on the palate, this wine has a zesty complexity that makes it the ultimate 'sundowner wine'. Savour it sensuously on the deck as the sun slips beneath the horizon!

Rosé 2009

"Pink with attitude." - Tony Love, The Advertiser

Totally different, totally unique! This sophisticated, dry Rosé is made from a blend of Blaufränkisch and Trollinger grapes. Blaufränkisch is the premium red grape of Austria but it's also grown in Germany where it's known as Lemberger. Trollinger is widely planted in southern Germany. Hahndorf Hill Winery is the only grower of these varieties in Australia.
The hand-picked grapes were crushed and given minimal skin contact in order to produce the sensational salmon-pink colour, then the juice was fermented dry like a white wine.
With its aromatic nose and palate of freshly-crushed raspberries, quinces and cider-apples, this is the perfect wine for all seafood - sushi, oysters or pan-seared tuna fillets. Also magical with chilli-based or Thai cuisine. Try it with dark chocolate too. Serve beautifully chilled.

Cost: A$22.00 per bottle incl. GST

Blaufränkisch 2008

SIX BOTTLE LIMIT

Trophy / Top of Class / Gold Medal - Australian Boutique Wine Awards 2010

Gold Medal, International Cool Climate Wine Show 2010

94 Points - Philip White, The Independent Weekly

"It's a bold, deeply coloured red with lush flavour and rich, ripe dark-fruit aromas and blueberry to the fore - just as it is in the Austrian versions." - Huon Hooke, The Sydney Morning Herald

"Hahndorf Hill has produced a stunning, and thus far Australia's only, Blaufränkisch from the 2008 vintage: it's a sort of stylistic cross between a sexy Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, a Gimblett Gravels Syrah and an out-there Moulin-à-Vent." - Phil Reedman MW

Blaufränkisch is a red grape variety that produces wines of superb quality in its homeland of Austria, where it ranks as the pre-eminent grape in the red wine province of Burgenland. UK wine guru Jancis Robinson has referred to this blueblooded varietal as the 'Pinot Noir of Eastern Europe'. Hahndorf Hill Winery is currently the only producer of Blaufränkisch in Australia. This 2008 vintage has produced a wine of great suppleness and elegance, with a gentle tumble of spice, dark cherries, blueberries, violets and fennel. It has excellent structure on the palate. The wine is perfectly matched with duck, quail, lamb and venison - and if you ever need to enjoy a red with your favourite seafood, this is it!
