The palate is a juicy tumble of red fruits, sliced apple and crushed raspberries, and the tail is long with a delicious, fruity acidity.
Perfectly matched to freshly shucked oysters and all your favourite seafoods, and sensational with spicy South East Asian cuisine.

Tasting notes: Blaufrankisch is a red grape variety that produces wines of superb quality in its homeland of Austria, where it ranks as the pre-eminent grape in the red wine province of Burgenland. Hahndorf Hill Winery was the first producer of Blaufrankisch in Australia, with our debut vintage being in 2008. This 2020 vintage is hauntingly beautiful with an appealing nose of blue-brambly fruit and spicy black cherries. Extraordinarily smooth and fine on the palate with a gentle tumble of fruit and a light brush of textured tannin. This stylish red wine sings when paired with your favourite spicy dish - but is also perfectly matched to skillet seared lamb, crispy duck or Atlantic salmon.
This Blaufrankisch will age till 2032 and will become more elegant and understated, yet complex and beautiful, as time passes.

Notes: Introducing Saint Laurent, the beautiful and bohemian daughter of Pinot Noir.
This enigmatic variety originated in France. But in 1863 a bundle of cuttings crossed the border to Austria and were delivered to the Klosterneuburg Monastery, which was a great viticultural and winemaking centre. Here the cuttings were planted and cared for by the winemaking monks, and then propagated into Austrian vineyards. Meanwhile, back in France, all Saint Laurent plants were wiped out by the great phylloxera outbreak.
Over the years, this beautiful and mysterious variety was fully embraced by Austrian wine fans. It was invariably described as producing wines similar to Pinot Noir, but being more full-bodied and bohemian.
However, recent DNA studies carried out at the Klosterneuburg Monastery viticultural school have now proven conclusively that Saint Laurent is indeed the genetic daughter of Pinot Noir, the most royal of red grape varieties, but their research has been unable to identify the second parent.
This is why we have decided to call our wine The Foundling Saint Laurent because the story fulfills the mythological criteria of the foundling-infant who, of uncertain parentage, gets abandoned on the steps of the monastery, where it gets embraced, nurtured and adopted into a new home. And then, after growing up, finally discovers she is indeed a princess after all!
The 2021 vintage Saint Laurent is a complex and sublimely beautiful red wine, with a perfumed nose of roses, violets, cherries, raspberry and cardamom. There are hints of graphite, mushroom and earthy forest floor. The palate is deeply textured and broodingly beautiful, with seamlessly integrated layers of red and black-brambly fruits and delicious tannins - all offset by a juicy, natural acidity. Sit quietly and let this wine whisper to you about her Pinot Noir mother.
Saint Laurent is sublimely matched to skillet-grilled lamb cutlets - but also perfectly matched with rare pan-seared duck breast, or a spicy beef (or vegetarian) casserole.

' A very elegant wine, high toned with alpine herb characters, choc-licorice, sea spray, green olive, tart cherry and white pepper - a beautiful array of intriguing aromas. In the palate, succulent texture, fine ribbons of pumice-stone tannin, tart, red cherry fruit, sweet spice, anise, faint graphite mineral characters. What a delight. It shimmies along, effortless and long, to a fine, bright point. Out of the box and outstanding. MB'

Tasting notes: Benediction is a unique red wine blend of three Austrian noble grape varieties - Saint Laurent, Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt. It is a wine that combines the best qualities of these three rare red varieties. Two of the varieties (Saint Laurent and Zweigelt) have close genetic links to Pinot Noir, while Blaufrankisch has always traditionally been stylistically compared to Pinot Noir, despite having no confirmed genetic link to this variety.
Benediction 2020 has a beautiful garnet colour and a nose full of cherries, beetroot and forest-floor aromatics. The palate is vibrant and captivating with fresh red fruits, gentle crushed herbs, wild mushroom and hints of cedar, all elegantly framed with a juicy acidity and fine, tea-like tannin.
This fine wine is perfectly matched with pan-seared duck breast, roast leg of lamb, rare sirloin steak, and extraordinary with a spicy, vegetarian stew.
